Culminating Task
Create a Flyer about the Canadian Railway using the Pages app
Overview
This is the culminating task where students will design a flyer using their word collage and notes as well as their K-W-L notes from the WeKWL app. All the vocabulary is available on their iPads so they can be creative in how they present their learning.
Task (Lesson)
This activity will take students approximately 3 (1-hour) sessions to finish. Using all the vocabulary they acquired, students will be required to individually create a flyer about what they've learned throughout the lessons on building the Canadian Railway. This activity allows students to creatively extend their knowledge by including images and text that is individualized and ultimately theirs.
There will be a class dedicated to exploring how to use the Pages app so that students have time to play and become familiar with the app. This is meant to be done collectively and students are encouraged to work with their peers in order to use all of the creative features of the app. Students have used Pages on computers but with this app students can include video as part of their brochure creation, making it more interactive.
Practice, Reinforcement, Extension
Student make connections to previous vocabulary, recognize new and recycled vocabulary and use their new words and sentences to produce a flyer. This activity involves listening, speaking, reading and writing (interconnected) and how to organize information for viewing by others.
EXTENSION: Students can upload this file as a *.pdf to the schools D2L shell to share with the school.
